Pat Price

Prof Pat Price

Chair

Visiting Professor in the Division of Surgery within the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Imperial College London, Pat Price is an academic clinical oncologist specialising in PET based molecular imaging, advanced radiotherapy techniques and translational research in oncology.

She pioneered the use of PET molecular imaging for micro-dosing pharmacokinetic and pharmacokinetic studies of new cancer agents and has one of the best insights into the potential of the application of this technology for oncology drug development.

Professor Price is the co-editor of the standard UK oncology textbook ‘Treatment of Cancer’, now in its 7th edition. She was President of the British Oncological Association from 2002 to 2004 and was a member of the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise oncology subcommittee.

A recognised opinion leader in PET based molecular imaging in cancer and advanced radiotherapy, she was profiled in Cancer World: Pat Price: asking the right questions.

Sarah Quinlan MBE

Charity Director

Sarah has worked in the voluntary sector since 2009 and was appointed Charity Director of Radiotherapy UK in 2022. Sarah has experience in charity development, frontline delivery, fundraising and advocating for change. She has a strong record of leading charities that punch above their weight. Her contribution to the community was recognised in the award of MBE in June 2018. Sarah’s focus is to lead Radiotherapy UK into the next stage of its development, increasing support for radiotherapy services throughout the UK and amplifying the voices of the radiotherapy patients and workforce.

Lynsey Rice BSc Hons

Lynsey is a Therapeutic Radiographer with over 25 years experience in both in the NHS and private sectors. Lynsey has excelled in many roles within radiotherapy,  Clinical Specialist in radiotherapy treatment,  Research and Development Lead,  Radiotherapy Deputy Manager to name a few. Lynsey has presented her research at academic conferences in the UK and abroad and has set up clinical trials from concept to approvals through to recruitment and follow up.  She has volunteered for RTUK for over 10 years during her clinical career and was instrumental in setting up the Champions Network. She has also raised much needed funds for the charity doing various organised running events. Lynsey now works for the charity as an adviser and expert in the field of radiotherapy.

Dr Christy Goldsmith

Trustee

Dr Christy Goldsmith is a Clinical Oncologist specialising in an advanced radiotherapy technique called Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT). She is a Committee Member on the SABR Consortium UK, a Consortium which has been active in advocating for access for patients to SBRT treatment, as well as developing treatment guidelines, and furthering UK SBRT research.

Andy Beavis

Andy Beavis is the Head of Medical Physics for the Humberside Trusts. Having worked in Radiotherapy for 32 years, he is still extremely active in research and clinical development with a view to improving radiotherapy. He has a passion for ensuring that new technology gets quickly (and safely) adopted into clinical practice in our war on cancer. 

Victoria Chapman

Victoria Chapman is an Advanced Dosimetry Therapeutic Radiographer with 17 years’ experience in Radiotherapy and 13 in planning: working at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Victoria has an  MSc in Radiotherapy Planning and is interested in the development of AI processes. 

Dr Clare Hague

Dr Clare Hague is a Health Economist and Founder of Oncology Access Solutions Ltd; a global consulting company that advises pharmaceutical companies on their market access strategies for cancer medicines under development. Prior to 2023, she had spent 18 years within the pharmaceutical industry specializing in the health technology assessment of cancer medicines, outcomes research, real-world evidence, and value-based healthcare.

Samina Hussain

Samina Hussain is Radiotherapy Service Manager at The Harley Street Clinic; and a qualified therapeutic radiographer with advanced all-round knowledge and a vast amount of clinical experience spanning nearly three decades. Samina is a trustee for breast cancer charity, Sakoon Through Cancer, which provides culturally appropriate and tailored support for South Asian Women. 

Adele Lyons

Adele Lyons has devoted her career to radiotherapy, starting as a therapeutic radiographer in Leeds. From there, Adele moved into industry and travelled the world, witnessing best practice and technology in action. Taking this experience, Adele then sought to support customers in the UK and Ireland implement the most advanced technologies introduced to the market at the earliest opportunity. 

Andy Tudor

Andy Tudor had surgery for a large brain tumour in 2017, and stereotactic radiotherapy in 2022 to treat reocurrence. He is currently all clear, though dealing with the many after-effects of treatments. Andy is a volunteer for multiple related charities, sharing his lived experience.  In 2023 he won The Brain Tumour Charity’s Volunteer of the Year Award a Special Commendation in the Volunteer of the Year category of the 2023 UK Charity (Third Sector) Awards.

Prof Philip Mayles

Professor Philip Mayles graduated from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge in 1968 and completed a master of science degree in radiation physics at St Bartholemew’s Hospital Medical School. In 1986, he obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine in London University, and was appointed head of clinical radiotherapy physics at the Royal Marsden Hospital. In 1994, he moved to Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology as head of the Physics Department.

Dr Nighat Awan OBE

Ambassador

Dr Nighat Awan OBE, CEO of the Shere Khan Group as a Radiotherapy UK Ambassador.  Dr Awan is an internationally celebrated business leader, who is passionate about our work to improve access to world-class radiotherapy for every person, no matter where they live, in the UK. As a cancer survivor herself she has a special connection with the charity.

After many years of loyal service on our Board of Trustees, Radiotherapy UK is delighted to welcome Dr Clive Harmer as an ambassador for the charity. Dr Harmer’s professional life has been devoted to cancer treatment and radiotherapy. He worked full time at the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Trust as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist and spent ten years as Chief of Radiotherapy Services at both the London and Sutton branches.

Tim Farron MP

Tim Farron MP

Patron

Tim Farron MP is currently the Member of Parliament for Westmoreland and Lonsdale, having been elected in his constituency since 2005. Tim has campaigned extensively for a radiotherapy unit in Westmorland General Hospital. He has previously arranged a radiotherapy reception in parliament, meeting with experts from across Britain to shine a light on radiotherapy and the benefits that it can bring to patients and in improving cancer outcomes.

Subsequently, the Access to Radiotherapy Bill 2017 – 19 was established to make provision to improve access to radiotherapy treatment in England; Tim has worked closely with Radiotherapy UK and supports our missions.

Bryan Robson

Brian Robson, OBE, was an English football manager and a former player. He represented England on 90 occasions between 1980 and 1991. On 16 March 2011, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with throat cancer and treated with surgery and radiotherapy.

David Smith MBE is a Professional athlete, Coach, Speaker, and Writer who has faced and overcome adversity throughout his life and lives with a level of resilience that he hopes to inspire in others.

He writes a monthly column for The Herald newspaper in Scotland that has documented his journey and recent radiotherapy treatment.

Lord Wade of Chorlton

Founding Patron

The late Lord Wade became life peer in the House of Lords in 1990 where he stayed until his retirement in 2016 and served as a member of the Science and Technology Select Committee.

Lord Wade was always interested in Radiotherapy, supporting the Wade Centre for Radiotherapy research, and helping to raise £25 million for Manchester’s Christie Hospital in a bid to revolutionise cancer treatment.

Lord Wade gave us advice and support in founding the charity and launching it in the House of Lords in 2010.

Lord Thomas of Macclesfield

The late Lord Thomas was chief executive at co-op bank for 9 years before becoming a life peer in 1997, sitting in the House of Lords until 2016, where he was a member on the Monetary Policy and European Affairs Select Committees.

Lord Thomas gave us advice and support in founding the charity and launching it in the House of Lords in 2010.
