Welcome to our new Charity Ambassador, Dr Nighat Awan OBE
We are delighted to welcome Dr Nighat Awan OBE, CEO of the Shere Khan Group as a Radiotherapy UK Ambassador. Dr Awan is an internationally celebrated business leader, who is passionate about our work to improve access to world-class radiotherapy for every person, no matter where they live, in the UK.
As a cancer survivor herself, Dr Awan has a special connection with the charity saying,
‘In 1991, I was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid and our lives were shattered, it was such a shock. By the grace of god I received the right treatment and never looked back. However, we all know the terrifying statistic that 1 in 2 of us will get cancer and only last year my husband received a very serious cancer diagnosis. He was able to access state-of-the-art radiotherapy which saved his life, but when I realised that this was not available to everyone I became determined to get involved and work towards changing this inequal system.”
