Radiotherapy UK and @Rad__Chat will be joining forces for this year’s #Miles4Radiotherapy!
The award-winning oncology podcast and hosts Jo McNamara and Naman Julka-Anderson will be the first ever media partners of the popular annual summer fundraiser.
This year’s #Miles4Radiotherapy, which opens for registration on Wednesday, May 1, will be fundraising for our #CatchUpWithCancer campaign. The campaign is the longest and loudest response to the UK’s cancer crisis, with around 4 in 10 people waiting too long for treatment. To date, more than 600,000 people have backed the campaign by signing its petition.
Living with, and beyond cancer
Jo McNamara, senior lecturer and therapeutic radiographer, said: “Regular exercise is so important for healthcare professionals and cancer patients alike. For healthcare professionals, staying active not only fosters physical wellness, but also enhances mental resilience, vital for managing our clinical demands.
“For anyone living with and beyond cancer, exercise is proven to complement treatment, improving mental health, reducing treatment side effects, and enhancing overall quality of life.
“By supporting #Miles4Radiotherapy, we advocate for the power of movement: join us in taking steps towards a healthier future for all, whilst helping to raise money for this amazing charity, Radiotherapy UK.”
Naman Julka-Anderson, senior therapeutic radiographer, said: “I love taking part in the #Miles4Radiotherapy challenge and getting as many miles in as possible; all in the name of raising the profile of radiotherapy as a vital treatment modality for people living with and beyond cancer. I had the amazing opportunity in 2023 to raise money for Radiotherapy UK while training and completing a full distance Ironman triathlon! It’s such a fun event – bringing anyone and everyone together from across the UK.”
Set your own goals
The aim for the summer challenge is to welcome the entire radiotherapy community – patients and professionals – to set their own goal to get active this summer and raise money for a good cause on the way.
Participants can choose how they move and how far: from a gentle five-minute walk to a mega marathon, the aim is to support each other as we take on goals that work for us and our circumstances.
Everyone taking part will get a welcome pack and snazzy multifunctional bandana: and a Thank You lanyard at the end of the event.
