Band 8A Principal Radiotherapy Physicist

This is a fixed-term post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

The Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Scientist to join its Radiotherapy Physics Section for a period of 12 months to provide maternity cover.

Radiotherapy equipment currently includes Elekta Versa HD(TM) and Synergy linear accelerators, equipped with 4D-CBCT and AlignRT SGRT, two wide-bore CT scanners with SimRT supporting 4D and breath-hold capture, an orthovoltage unit and a microSelectron HDR unit. Radiotherapy planning is provided by Eclipse(TM) and ProSoma, with patient management provided by MOSAIQ. Brachytherapy planning is provided by Oncentra and VariSeed systems. Radiotherapy services are delivered both at our hub in Reading and our satellite centre in Bracknell.

Candidates with active research interests are particularly welcome and will be supported through our growing collaboration with the Schools of Biomedical Sciences & Biomedical Engineering and Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences at the University of Reading.

Band 7 Posts

The Radiation Protection Department at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre provides a physics support and radiation protection service to a number of radiology departments across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. The department is involved in optimisation of cutting edge CT scanners, cardiac catheterisation labs and imaging in radiotherapy.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Scientist to join our service but will consider applicants still in training at a lower grade. The department has experience supporting staff on the route 2 training path.

The post-holder will manage a team of radiographers and be responsible for the
efficient daily organisation, administration and technical management of an allocated
section of the radiotherapy treatment floor, radiotherapy simulator and CT suite or
radiographers planning suite ensuring high standards of radiotherapeutic practice

An opportunity has arisen to recruit 1 permanent 0.5 WTE on-treatment review advanced practitioner (OTR) within the radiotherapy department.

The role of the OTR is varied with an emphasis on undertaking reviews of patients receiving radiotherapy treatment. IGRT / Team Lead for External Beam Radiotherapy

The Exeter Oncology Centre has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Therapeutic Radiographer with clinical and leadership experience to join our radiotherapy team in a team lead role.

The Oncology Centre is located on the Royal Devon site in Exeter. We operate three Varian Linacs and are currently undergoing an equipment refreshment programme, with two of the replacement Truebeam linacs already commissioned and clinically operational. The third replacement is due to be clinical by late August. We operate a Canon Wide Bore CT scanner and an Eclipse planning system to facilitate the planning and delivery of external beam treatment. The external beam radiotherapy service is paperless, utilising the Varian Aria administration system for service delivery. We also offer a wide range of Brachytherapy services and superficial skin treatment.

Our service has undergone significant transformation over the past few years, including the commissioning of a SABR service for primary lung disease and several oligometastatic disease sites supported by a robust IGRT programme. Further imaging and treatment developments, to include 4DCBCT, gated CBCT and 6 DoF couches are being facilitated by the equipment refresh and will be implemented clinically over the coming year. We are also actively involved in a broad range of clinical radiotherapy trials.

Job summary

Staff in the Mechanical Workshop Section of Medical Physics undertake the design, development and manufacture of medical and other devices for multiple clients in the Trust and in King’s College London. Work is carried out for areas providing direct patient care, for research groups and to support the overall quality of Trust services. At the Robert White Centre we have a True Beam Linac, with the VisionRT surface guided radiotherapy system, allowing us to give high quality radiotherapy to the local community which otherwise would have had to travel to the main site at Poole.

Although the post is based at the satellite centre, there will also be a rotation through the main department so the post holder can experience other specialist treatments.

Full time staff currently work their contracted hours over 4 days and are given a rolling day off each week with rotation. We are looking for permanent Band 5 Therapeutic Radiographers to join this Sheffield team that is part of the Yorkshire and Humber radiotherapy network.

This modern department comprises of seven Varian linear accelerators, including four Truebeam (two of which are Truebeam STX). Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy, Image Guided Radiotherapy and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy are standard practice across the department. There is an orthovoltage & superficial unit and two new Philips CT scanners with virtual simulation and Varian RGSC gating system.
