We’re excited to welcome the Rad Chat team back as media partners for this year’s Miles4Radiotherapy!
Jo McNamara and Naman Julka-Anderson host the award-winning oncology podcast – which has just launched a new website – and have taken part in our annual summer fundraiser since it launched in 2020.
The dynamic duo, who are also Radiotherapy UK Ambassadors, will be supporting the challenge to raise funds for the next stage of our Patients and Families online hub.
This year’s Miles4Radiotherapy is now open for registration. The challenge starts on July 1st and finishes August 31st. Anyone impacted by cancer can create a team or individual challenge and clock up the miles for sponsorship.
Participants can choose how they move: walking, running, scooting, wheeling, sailing, horse-riding, and boxing are just some of the choices from previous years. Everyone who signs up will get a welcome pack, challenge merchandise, and exclusive access to the Race At Your Pace App.
This year the challenge aims to bring the radiotherapy community together to complete 160,000 miles over two months. Every mile represents a radiotherapy treatment course delivered in the UK by our highly skilled workforce and the many thousands of UK cancer patients seeking trusted, empowering information to help them navigate cancer.
Raising radiotherapy awareness
Together, we hope to raise awareness, show solidarity, and fundraise to create more trusted PIF TICK accredited radiotherapy information for every adult UK cancer patient who needs it.
Jo McNamara, senior lecturer and therapeutic radiographer, said: “Miles4Radiotherapy is one of my favourite events of the year. It’s such a brilliant way to connect with the radiotherapy community, get moving, and focus on something positive. For me, being active really supports my mental health and as the weather warms up, it gives me the perfect excuse to step away from my laptop in the evenings and get outside to rack up some miles! Get involved you won’t be disappointed.”
Naman Julka-Anderson, senior therapeutic radiographer, said: “Miles4radiotherapy is a fun challenge for a great cause hosted by the only charity in the UK dedicated to radiotherapy. Whether you walk, swim or complete Ironman triathlons it’s for you.
“It’s hard not to get competitive when you’re trying to beat other radiotherapy departments and groups across the country. Main thing is you get outside in nature or wherever to get those miles in!”
Radiotherapy legends
Sarah Quinlan MBE, director of Radiotherapy UK, said: “Jo and Naman are radiotherapy legends – embodying everything that makes this workforce and their skills so special for patients.
“We feel so fortunate to have their enthusiasm and energy supporting our annual fundraiser and are excited to see what they’ll choose as their challenge!
“With the launch of their website this year, they are doing so much to support patients and empower professionals and making the hardships of cancer that much easier to cope with.”
