Today – #WorldCancerDay 2025 – we have a powerful message for the government.
It’s been 10 long years since the NHS last hit the most important cancer target – treating patients on time.
More than half a million people have waited too long for treatment since 2015.
No more excuses, it’s time to #CatchUpWithCancer! Thanks to our patient and radiotherapy workforce supporters, Radiotherapy UK created a special World Cancer Day video message which premiered outside the Houses of Parliament this morning.

Cancer campaign reaches Parliament
Our video message premiered today (Tuesday, February 4th) right outside the Houses of Parliament, on a large digital van, which then drove around Westminster with the headline message:
500,000+ Cancer Patients left waiting for treatment in the last decade. It’s time to #CatchUpWithCancer. Change.org/catchupwithcancer
We were joined by charities, industry and workforce and supporters and our patron, football legend Bryan Robson OBE, to urge government to think big, brave and bold when it comes to a national cancer plan. Doing so could save hundreds of thousands of lives over the next decade, and radically improve patient outcomes.

About the #CatchUpWithCancer campaign
The #CatchUpWithCancer campaign and petition were launched back in 2020 by Craig and Mandy Russell and Professor Pat Price, chair of Radiotherapy UK.
Craig and Mandy lost their daughter, Kelly Smith, at the age of 31. Her cancer treatment was stopped because of the pandemic and she died just a few weeks later, leaving behind her family and young son. Since then, the Russell family have campaigned tirelessly, urging the government to act for the sake of UK cancer patients.
