Event and photos: Radiotherapy Vision launches at Westminster in wake of World Cancer Day 2024

Parliamentarians, frontline staff, industry representatives, patients and cancer experts gathered at Westminster yesterday for the launch of a 10-year Vision for Radiotherapy.

World-class Radiotherapy in the UK: Right Patient, Right Treatment, Right Time has been written and supported by key members and organisations in the radiotherapy community.

Radiotherapy UK, as secretariat of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Radiotherapy (APPGRT), welcomed a full house to the event yesterday (February 6).

Attendees heard from Tim Farron, chair of the APPGRT, advocate and cancer patient Holly Masters, brain tumour survivor Andy Tudor, co-author Dr Katie Wakeham and Professor Pat Price.

Nike athlete and RTUK Ambassador David Smith MBE also spoke of his experience of a spinal tumour and the radiotherapy treatment that gave him a five-year break from major surgeries.

The Vision has already won the support of former England manager Bryan Robson OBE, who had radiotherapy in 2012 to treat throat cancer.

“Radiotherapy saved my life. It’s given me the priceless gift of time and memories with my friends and family. For the sake of cancer patients, I ask all of us to use our influence to make this 10-year vision a reality.”
