“The closure of such an important UK cancer research body, due to lack of funding after 22 years, is truly saddening.
“It serves as yet another damning indictment of the dire state of our cancer services.
“It is striking that the National Cancer Research Institute, born from the first cancer plan, shuts its doors precisely when we desperately need a radical new cancer plan to address record cancer treatment waits and the radiotherapy crisis.
“If ever there was a time for the government to take action, deliver a new cancer plan, and invest in critical services like radiotherapy, it is now.”
