Special mentions

Roma and friends for completing Run for the Wild at Banham Zoo and winning very cool interlocking team medals.

Peter’s immense efforts; fuelled by his active wife, active workplace and not having a car.

Jo, James and Kate – all Ambassadors for Radiotherapy UK – headed off for a seven-mile hike around the Peaks.

Best wishes to Kate who ended up with a wonky ankle! Speedy recovery Kate.

Jo fitted in one last big bike ride. After coming back from a serious injury, she has absolutely boshed this year’s challenge.

Rose walked her final miles, Yun reached her steps goal with some beautiful scenery, and Beth took her family visitors for a stroll around Oxford.

Amy climbed to the summit of Inchcailloch on Loch Lomond, and Priyesh took his tennis match inside to escape the rain. Meanwhile Kate and her family bagged Curbar Edge in the Peak District.

There was a big push from Kerry and the Cardiff JellyKats in memory of a dear friend, and Elekta left us with a team photo to remember!

As Kerry wrote in her update: “Live your life with arms wide open, today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten.”

Miles for Katy

It was very touching to see so many people add miles on the final day in memory of our friend and Ambassador, Katy Cooper. Katy loved Miles4Radiotherapy and we loved Katy. She lost her life to cancer far too soon and we will think of her always and often.

Together you did an incredible 1,859 miles for Katy.

Fabulous fundraisers finish strong

Our fundraisers and donors worked really hard to carry us past the £2,500 mark and we are so grateful. Every pound will support trusted resources for UK cancer patients. In an age of growing misinformation, this is more and more important.

If you would like to make a donation, it’s not too late, here is the link.

Photo competition winners

You made this TOUGH for us! So many amazing photos and memories that we agonized over the final decisions. Here are your worthy top ten with some honourable mentions. Thanks to all who shared their lovely photos – we looked at all of them and really enjoyed seeing your active summers unfold. We have sent out mini prizes to our winners.

Most orange: Kate Knapp-Tabbernor took us on her travels and packed her t-shirt wherever she went! She also showed true orange spirit with a monster Peloton-athon which crowned her the top fundraiser.

Honourable mention: Roma Bernal and friends.

Best team: Elekta showed they can win any spelling bee – with a spectacular photo of their team arranged into their name.

Best story: Our volunteer Andy Tudor walked 500 miles with his wife, Jane. Andy, who has had radiotherapy for a brain tumour, devotes a serious amount of time and energy to supporting UK cancer patients.

Best buddy: Harry the spaniel proved he can walk the bark with his bright orange threads and plenty of activity with his pawrent, Kerry.

Honourable mention: All of our four-legged friends who took part because frankly, you are all delightful and deserve extra treats.

Best view: This was a tough one but in the end we felt Priyesh Mistry had captured multiple fabulous views on his morning runs.

Honourable mention: Yun Wang for some lovely snaps of Abingdon.

Most unusual activity: Salma M set the bar high with this one; heading out on a pedalo with her pal. After that the floodgates opened with silent discos, Iron man events, zip wires, obstacle courses, the Crystal Maze, the list went on and on!

Honourable mention: Lizzie Smith for training at the European Aquatics Champs with her GBR team! This was unusually impressive to us!

First time activity: Who can forget Rose and her ice cream run? Perhaps the most envy-inspiring option of the challenge.

Happiest photo: Anyone who dresses in an inflatable cow costume to complete a run has high levels of serotonin. Step up to the stage, Fiona Bond!

Honourable mention: Powerhouse Jill Chapman, who finished an Ironman with a smile on her face. Was it happiness or relief though Jill?

Community champion: This can only go to our very own Jo McNamara, tireless Ambassador and supporter, legend of the challenge and the most competitive person we know. This year, alongside her own exhausting list of activities, Jo arranged a challenge walk with James Barber and Kate Knapp-Tabernor. Never change Jo, never change.😉

Parkrun pic: Mafalda locked this one in early with her ‘finished at the finish’ photo! We also loved her other Parkrun pics which brought lots of fun to the socials.

Honourable mention: Gary Sidgewick and Peter Stahlman also shared some lovely Parkrun piccies!

Closing thoughts

One final thank you to our sponsors. Running the challenge is a lot of work and we could not do it without you.

Xiel were our amazing headline Ultra sponsors; and OIS backed us as Sprint sponsors this year. Rad Chat were our media partners and we thank them also for their wonderful efforts.

Farewell until next year!

Warmest wishes,

Team Radiotherapy UK
