Miles4Radiotherapy week six – tackling radiotherapy misinformation together!

This year’s Miles4Radiotherapy is raising funds to make more resources for UK cancer patients – resources on our website that are free to use, and that clinicians and patients have coproduced. Resources based on facts, science, evidence and lived experience.

In a growing age of misinformation, this is more radical than it sounds.

Cancer patients are bombarded by scam artists, unsolicited advice and untested remedies. They are told that sugar causes cancer, and infrared light and apricot kernels can cure it. Sometimes the misinformation comes from their own communities – it is hard to escape and difficult to know who to believe.

A quiet, safe place to read, watch or view trusted information is our way of helping people block out the noise. And it’s your participation, support, fundraising donations and sponsorship that makes this possible – so a huge thank you from all of us at Radiotherapy UK.

For more on this important subject, please join us on World Radiotherapy Awareness Day for Tackling Radiotherapy Misinformation; a coffee and chat online meeting to discuss this subject, with special guests.

Miles are mounting ⬆️

This week our participants have flown past the 100,000 midway mile mark! This is an incredible achievement and only possible because we have so many people taking part with a huge range of activities.

Our top ten have an extraordinary amount of miles between them. Well done Peter, Ringo, Martin, Ahmad, MJ, Kam, Leila, Roma, Jill and Naman! We hope you have a long rest planned for September!

It’s all going off with the team leaderboard too!

Mount Vernon Milers – Machine 3, East Midlands Radiotherapy Network, NNUH Fine City Flyers, ReadingRReady, Barts in Motion Management, Rad Chat, Royal Free Hospital Radiotherapy, Elekta, bClear Communications and Mount Vernon Milers – Machine 1 are wrestling around in the top ten, overtaking each other, losing ground, gaining it back and making this challenge more fast and furious than it’s ever been!
