Pat said:

“I started running 15 years ago and at first I could not make it to the end of the street.

“Then I did Couch to 5k and gradually increased what I could do from five minutes.

“I used the walk run method then and still use it now, and have just completed my tenth London Marathon.

“Don’t let the voices in your head tell you you can’t – yes you can! If I can do it, I believe anyone can.

You don’t have to run a marathon either – Couch to 5k is brilliant and really good for so many people.”

Miles4Radiotherapy 2026

The challenge, sponsored by Xiel, is open to all abilities with an aim to collect as many miles as possible throughout July and August.

You set your targets, and choose how you do your miles. Past participants have walked, jogged, ran, cycled, ridden horses, paddle boarded and obstacle coursed their way through the challenge!

There is no age limit, and we welcome everyone to take part in a way that works for you and your life circumstances.

  • Are you recovering from cancer treatment? You are welcome
  • Do you have mobility issues? You are welcome
  • Are you an ambitious triathlete? You are welcome
  • Are you unable to leave your home? You are welcome
  • Are you returning to exercise after a break? You are welcome

The Race At Your App allows you to turn any activity, big or small, into mileage. You can include activities like cleaning the house, making the bed, climbing Ben Nevis, walking your children to school – you name it – it counts.

Resources that comfort, inform and empower

Radiotherapy patients tell us they want a safe place to access trusted information before, during and after treatment. Sometimes hospital appointments feel too short, or people feel so worried it’s hard to concentrate and ask questions.

In May 2025 we launched our Patients and Families online hub to meet this health need; a place where there are free videos and information about radiotherapy and cancer.

Our resources are PIF TICK accredited, which means they are accessible, inclusive, and made with the support of patients and clinicians.

We’re off to a strong start, but we have a long way to go, and a big list of resources to make!

Doing things properly takes time and money – so every penny raised by this challenge supports our vital work.
