Attending the Cancer Knows No Borders conference at Queen’s University Belfast yesterday: director of Radiotherapy UK, Sarah Quinlan reflects on her key take aways.

Sarah said: “It was great to be invited to the conference, and to celebrate the achievements of the Good Friday agreement 25 years on. I learned so much from the speakers, and it really struck me how political cancer is, because it affects everybody.

“Everything we do has to be based on data and we need to impress that upon decision makers and policy makers, because that’s the only way to deliver cancer services. Data eats opinions for lunch.

“Professor Richard Sullivan spoke about how the biggest killer of cancer patients is delays in treatment. It has to start and end with patients and we have to think big.

Our vision is for equality of access to radiotherapy services across the UK. It’s going to take a lot to achieve that, but if we don’t think big then we’re not going to get anywhere.”
