Miles4RT Participant – Rema Jyothirmayi

Dr Rema Jyothirmayi
Consultant Clinical Oncologist

I have been working as an NHS consultant clinical oncologist, trained to treat patients with radiotherapy as well as chemotherapy, since 2003. Radiotherapy is an important component of treatment for many cancers and is used to achieve cure or to palliate symptoms. There is inequality in the provision of radiotherapy services across the UK, and as an oncologist, I know first-hand how this impacts on patient care.

Radiotherapy UK is the only charity dedicated to improving access to state-of-the-art radiotherapy for patients across the UK and raising awareness about the issues. I am proud to be fundraising for this incredible charity as part of the Kent Oncology Centre team, which includes radiographers, physicists, nurses and doctors working at our cancer centre.

On the 22nd of July, I completed the Yorkshire three peaks challenge, a gruelling 42 km up and downhill trek. I have continued with my long walks since, helping our team add miles to the bank for this worthwhile Miles4Radiotherapy initiative.
