Radiotherapy UK backs family of Dame Deborah James as they call for UK cancer plan

The #CatchUpWithCancer campaign has long been calling for a dedicated cancer plan, so we fully stand by the family of Dame Deborah James and the Bowelbabe Fund in their call for the next Government to develop a long-term cancer strategy.

Creating a comprehensive, fully-funded national cancer strategy is supported by international evidence, cancer experts, the more than 600,000 people that have signed the #CatchUpWithCancer petition, and countless others affected by this devastating disease.

Radiotherapy UK’s Chair, Professor Pat Price, said:

“Dame Deborah James was a remarkable inspiration to us all, and the legacy she has left behind will help save the lives of an untold number of cancer patients.

“During Deborah’s time as a cancer patient, she did all she could to fight back against this awful disease, while also raising awareness and money for all those affected by cancer.

“Unfortunately, today, it feels as though the Government and NHS are not doing all they can to win the battle against cancer. With cancer wait times in the UK at record levels, we’re in desperate need of a national cancer strategy to get cancer services in the NHS back on the right track.

“I’m proud to support the Bowelbabe Fund in their calls for the next Government to create a strategy within the first year of the general election.”
