New report: Support the end of ‘cruel’ journeys for life-saving radiotherapy

Front page coverage in today’s Daily Express features our Equity of Access report showing that 7.4million people live well beyond the recommended 45-minute travel time for radiotherapy.

Professor Pat Price, our Chair, said: “Where you live should not determine if you live. Too many patients who need radiotherapy face long, arduous journeys to get to their nearest radiotherapy centre. Or worse, the nearest one is so far away that it’s just not a viable option.”

Radiotherapy UK, Professor Price and the Russell family co-founded the #CatchUpWithCancer campaign back in 2020 – now the longest and loudest campaign against the the UK’s growing cancer crisis.

The Equity of Access report was only made possible by a grant from Ergéa, for which we are extremely grateful. The report uncovers the number of people at risk of long ‘cruel’ commutes for treatment due to ‘cancer treatment deserts.’ It contains recommendations for the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
