Radiotherapy UK gains PIF TICK accreditation to become ‘trusted information creator’

Radiotherapy PIF TICK logo with the words Trusted Information Creator and Patient Information Forum. There is a blue rectangular border with a big green tickUK has been awarded the PIF TICK – the UK’s only assessed quality mark for print and online health and care information.

To become a ‘trusted information creator’, our team had to undergo an assessment showing we can meet 10 key criteria when making patient resources.

A key part of our learning has been working with patient and clinical engagement groups to create and review resources that solve a health problem. A special thanks to all that have been involved in this work.

The PIF TICK means patients and families can trust what they are reading, watching or listening to is evidence-based, understandable, jargon-free, up-to-date and produced to the best possible standard.

The Patient and Families section of our website is currently under review and will be launched according to PIF TICK standards later this year.

Radiotherapy UK is working with patient engagement groups to create resources that help people prepare and understand their journey through radiotherapy: before, during and after treatment.

Reliable and trustworthy

Director Sarah Quinlan said: “Gaining the PIF TICK is a huge achievement for our small charity. It underlines the focus we have on ensuring a strong patient-centered process for developing our health information resources.”

The PIF TICK, which launched in May 2020 is run by the non-profit Patient Information Forum (PIF).

In July 2021, a public website, www.piftick.org.uk, was launched to raise awareness of PIF TICK accredited members and help people find trusted health information.

The site also includes guides on topics including spotting false health information and understanding evidence.

PIF TICK manager Dan Wills said: “We are thrilled to welcome Radiotherapy UK to our ever-growing community of accredited PIF TICK members. Accurate, accessible, evidence-based information is key to increasing patient empowerment and improving health outcomes.”
